Seachem Purigen Bag – 100 ml bag filled with Purigen
Purigen® is an exceptional synthetic adsorbent that stands out from other filtration products. Unlike typical mixtures of ion exchangers or adsorbents, it is a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer designed to remove both soluble and insoluble impurities from water. In fact, it outperforms all competing products by over 500% in terms of rate and capacity. Purigen® effectively manages ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates by eliminating nitrogenous organic waste that would otherwise release these harmful substances. The effect of Purigen® on trace elements is minimal, and it significantly enhances redox levels. This product polishes water to an unmatched clarity. As Purigen® becomes exhausted, it darkens progressively and can be easily renewed by treating it with bleach. It is suitable for both marine and freshwater environments.
Selectivity
Purigen® is recognized as the highest capacity organic filtration resin available. No other products can match its ability to clear haziness and achieve remarkable water clarity. Unlike simple ion-exchange resins, Purigen® is specifically designed to function as an organic scavenging resin. While ion-exchange resins reach their limits when filled with metals and other contaminants, Purigen® still retains significant potential. It typically disregards basic elemental compounds and has a strong affinity for nitrogenous organics. The main source of nitrogenous compounds in aquariums comes from waste produced by fish, corals, and even plants. Purigen® effectively removes that waste more quickly and thoroughly than any other product on the market.
Directions
Rinse Purigen® before use. It is best to utilize a fine mesh filter bag (180 microns or less), such as Seachem’s The Bag™. For optimal results, place Purigen® in a way that maximizes water flow through it. It can be used in a canister filter, media chamber, box filter, or any high flow area of a trickle filter. Each 250 mL of Purigen® treats up to 1,000 L (250 US gallons) for up to six months. You will know when it is exhausted by the noticeable dark brown or black discoloration of the beads.
A: Purigen® removes organics before they can be converted by bacteria into ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate, leading to reduced nitrate concentrations over time. However, it does not directly eliminate these chemicals from the water. If your nitrate levels remain high, we recommend performing a partial water change and using biomedia to support anaerobic denitrifying bacteria that will help remove nitrate from your water.
