Polyplab Medic is used to combat external fish parasites in both marine and freshwater environments
Polyplab Medic is a highly effective water treatment solution designed to tackle external fish parasites in both marine and freshwater settings. This product includes a reef-resistant oxidant, making it particularly effective against:
- Marine Ich – Crytpocaryon irritans
- Freshwater Ich – Ichthyophthirius multifiliis
- Marine Velvet – Amyloodinium ocellatum
Characteristics:
- Complete reef-safe
- Buffered to maintain pH levels
- Safe for nitrifying bacteria
- May pose a risk to invertebrates
How Medic Works:
Many external fish parasites share similar life cycles, which include a “bonded” phase (trophonts), a “mature” phase (protomonts), a “reproductive” phase (tomonts), and a “free-swimming” phase (theronts / dinospores). Unfortunately, most treatments do not effectively target the free-swimming stage, which complicates the management of these infections.
Research on ciliated protozoans has indicated that the free-swimming stage of these parasites hatches at remarkably consistent times. Our product is specifically designed to be most effective during this crucial stage.
While our conditioner primarily targets the trophont stage, it also disrupts the life cycle during the free-swimming phase. Therefore, when using Medic, it is important for hobbyists to maintain the highest concentration of the medication during this critical time, as the oxidative component is particularly effective against theronts and dinospores.
Active Ingredients: Crystallized peroxide salts.
Usage Guidelines:
- Administer one spoon of Medic twice daily for every 190 liters of system volume.
- Administer the first dose in the morning (before 10 a.m. if possible).
- Administer the second dose in the evening (after 10 p.m. if possible).
- Continue the treatment for a full 10 days.
Note: During treatment, ozone and activated carbon should not be used. Protein skimmers can operate normally, and UV filters can be used one hour after adding the product to the aquarium or sump.
It is important to note that the infection may appear to resolve when white spots are no longer visible on the fish. However, this is merely part of the natural life cycle of the parasite. It is crucial to continue dosing the product for the entire 10-day course to achieve maximum effectiveness.
After completing the treatment, please use activated carbon for 2 to 3 days.
Lastly, store the product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to ensure its effectiveness.
