Prior To Dosage Agent Green utilizes calcium’s (and similar alkaline metals) natural attraction to phosphate to conduct an ion exchange that binds phosphate with lanthanum chloride. Agent Green will not be effective with little-to-no calcium and / or alkaline values in the water. Application Adhere strictly to the instructions of 1ppm daily removal of phosphate with Agent Green. With a standard medicine dropper, dose 1ml per 38L (10 gal) into a high flow area of the aquarium. This is equal to approximately 2 drops per 3.78 L (1 gal). It is important to add to a high flow area of the aquarium to ensure maximum dispersal of Agent Green. Upon dosing, a visible “smoke” effect should be seen in the water. If no smoke effect is present, the water column is lacking sufficient alkalinity for phosphate removal. This usually occurs in freshwater systems that have no calcium buffering. Additional Tips And Considerations A handful of crushed sea shells or oyster shells per 95 L (25 gal) in a freshwater aquarium will help to keep calcium buffered to useful levels for phosphate removal with Agent Green Phosphate Leaching In the event Agent Green is used in long mature aquariums, there is a likelihood that much phosphate has absorbed into rock and other media. In this case, phosphate will leach out of the rock and media to balance its equilibrium with water column. This causes the appearance that Agent Green has not removed any phosphate, but the fact is the phosphate was removed and its place was filled by the leached phosphate. This is a positive, as use of Agent Green is the only phosphate removing method capable of removing phosphate out of the water column and out of the media. Note: Agent Green forms an insoluble compound that will not dissolve once created
