Reef Zlements Boron (B) – 1 L Stabilises pH and supports coral calcification
Boron (B) is an important macro element found in seawater, typically present at a concentration of approximately 4.5 mg/L. It exists mainly as boric acid and borate, and although its level is lower compared to elements such as sodium, chloride, and magnesium, it plays a vital role in maintaining reef health.
Boron contributes directly to seawater alkalinity and helps regulate pH levels through the dynamic balance between boric acid and borate ion. This balance is essential in stabilising pH, especially in reef aquariums where consistent water chemistry is key.
Certain coral species like Cladocora caespitosa demonstrate a strong pH dependence on boron isotope compositions. This indicates boron’s involvement in coral pH regulation and calcification processes, making it essential for healthy coral development and growth.
In the Reef Zlements mixing classification, Boron is designated as a Type C element, indicating its unique handling requirements in marine aquariums.
To understand the scientific background behind Boron supplementation, we recommend referring to our detailed H2P Methodology manual available through the following link.
Dosage information: 20 mL of Boron Zlement increases the Boron level by 1 mg/L in 100 litres of aquarium water.
