Phosphate is a crucial nutrient that is often consumed in high quantities and is frequently low in availability within reef aquariums, as well as in unpolluted natural coral reefs. It plays an essential role in the growth processes of coral skeletons and tissues.

In a natural coral reef environment, fish and plankton release insoluble, particulate forms of phosphate that are vital for the metabolism and growth of corals. These particles are easily filtered from the water and utilized by corals. Tropic Marin® has harnessed this natural principle in their innovative product, Tropic Marin® Phos-Feed, designed to provide ongoing phosphate nutrition in reef aquariums.

Tropic Marin® Phos-Feed is inspired by the natural mechanisms of phosphate supply found in wild coral reef environments. This product allows for targeted dosing of phosphate in your reef aquarium without causing a continuous increase in the phosphate concentration of the water. As a result, coral growth is stimulated, and corals display natural skeletal development patterns and vibrant colors, just like those found in healthy coral reefs. Delivering insoluble particulate phosphates is the most effective method for supplying this essential nutrient to corals.

Application & Dosage

Application: Tropic Marin® Phos-Feed can be added at any time, day or night. However, since it may cloud the water slightly, we recommend applying it around the time the lights are turned off to take advantage of the corals’ nocturnal polyp opening. The temporary turbidity is normal and will clear up shortly after.

To use, fill a container halfway with about 200ml of reverse osmosis water and add the calculated amount of Tropic Marin® Phos-Feed. Mix the powder and water thoroughly by stirring, then pour the suspension into the aquarium’s current and rinse the cup with aquarium water.

Dosage: Start with a daily dosage of 1 ml (using a small measuring spoon) of Tropic Marin® Phos-Feed per 200 l (50 US-gal) of aquarium water. If, after four weeks, the phosphate concentration does not reach between 0.05 ppm and 0.15 ppm, double the dosage to 2 ml (using a larger measuring spoon) per 200 l (50 US-gal). We recommend not exceeding a maximum dosage of 4 ml per 200 l (50 US-gal).
