Tropic Marin Refill Pack Nitrite/Nitrate-Test PRO Freshwater / Saltwater Refill For high precision determination of the nitrite and nitrate concentration
Nitrate ions (NO3–) are created from ammonium (NH4+) as the final product of the nitrification process. During this process, nitrite (NO2–), which can be quite harmful to freshwater species, is generated in the first phase. If everything goes smoothly, nitrite will be transformed into the much less toxic nitrate in the second phase. Elevated nitrite levels above 0.05 mg/l (ppm) are generally detected in tanks that are maturing or those with nitrate filters.
Nitrate has a significant impact on water quality in your aquarium. In saltwater setups, high nitrate levels can hinder the growth of sensitive corals. Additionally, an algal bloom may occur due to increased nitrate concentrations. Some reef aquariums strive for ultra-low nutrient environments, where nitrate shortages can become an issue. Therefore, it is important to regularly check the nitrate levels in your aquarium water. For freshwater aquariums, it is recommended to keep nitrate levels below 50 mg/l (ppm), while in saltwater applications, this should not exceed 20 mg/l (ppm). When caring for hard coral, the goal is to maintain nitrate levels below 10 mg/l (ppm). The acceptable limits for nitrate can vary based on the overall conditions in the aquarium.
With the high-resolution Tropic Marin® Nitrite/Nitrate-Test Professional, you can determine nitrite and nitrate concentrations with exceptional accuracy in the low concentration range of 0 to 1 ppm for nitrite and 0 to 20 ppm for nitrate.
